The Importance of Wearing Sunblock

We all know that skin cancer is caused by the sun but not everyone knows that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. One in Five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer, and the statistic is only getting worse

What most people don’t realize is that sunscreen should be used daily, even on cloudy days, even when it’s raining, even if you are staying home or running a quick errand, even if you will be in your office all day. Sunscreen should be worn to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.

The sun’s ultraviolet rays is the number one cause of premature aging. Wearing sunscreen everyday helps slow down this process and keeps your skin looking younger and healthier. It also helps prevent uneven skin tone. For those people that tend to freckle and develop sun spots for the sun’s exposure, wearing daily sunscreen dramatically reduces this. Sun damage occurs over your lifetime and shows up as you age. Aside from wearing sunscreen daily, at Senses we offer different skin care treatments that help reduce the signs of sun damage. Our Professional Peel is an amazing treatment to reduce sun damage and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Our Microneedling (Dermapen) helps stimulate collagen production and dramatically reduce the sings of aging. Our Hydra Facial also helps reduces the signs of aging and leaves your skin hydrated and glowing. For the best results, skin care treatments should be a part of your regulat skin care regimen. At Senses we offer numerous treatments as well as monthly memeberships.

There are two types of sunscreen:  Physical and Chemical

Physical Sunblock sits on top of your skin and acts like a shield to deflect the sun. Since it doesn’t need to be absorbed by the skin in can be applied right before sun exposure. The main ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Babies and those with sensitive skin should chose a physical sunscreen. Physical sunscreens are heavier and tend to last longer

Chemical Sunblock is absorbed by the skin and therefore should be applied at least 20 min before sun exposure. Once it is absorbed by your skin, the sunscreen acts like a sponge to absorb the sun’s rays and turn it into heat which is then released by your skin. Chemical sunscreens are light weight and water resistant and therefore are great for sports activiets, pool days, and beach days. The main ingredients are oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene.

During all our skin care treatments at Senses, you will leave with sunscreen applied to your skin. Our skin therapist will apply the appropriate sunscreen after your treatment.

It doesn’t matter which type of sunscreen you choose. At Senses we can analyze your skin and help you choose the right sunscreen for your skin. We carry both physical and chemical sunblock. Call us to schedule an appointment or a free skin consultation
